So I was skeptical that a new electronic unit would help put fish in the box. We installed a Fish Hawk TD from Calumet Marine over the winter and tried it out yesterday. The coho are moving North so we headed to the R2 gong 8 miles offshore. The boat depth finder read 56 feet. My downrigger balls are light so there is a lot of blowback. The manual downrigger counter read 64 and before the Fishhawk I could only find the bottom by bouncing the ball. The Fishhawk said our speed was 3.3 on the surface so I was interested in the speed at the ball. Trolling West from the gong put our ball speed at 2.4 - 2 feet from the bottom and the temp at the ball was 42 degrees. We dropped at trashcan dodger and pink Spin-N-Glow down 54 feet. It was only a couple minutes and a laker was on. Seems like a successful test - you have to be patient when you change depths - the probe signal has a lag time, but the display is great and you can see it from the back of the boat just fine.

thank you for your report
as the water settles and we get more defines thermal layers out there the fish hawk becomes more and more important
