I inherited an 85 stingray with an OMC stringer 3.8 gm last year after serving in the Navy for 8 years. I didnt know much about boats just basic mechanical knowledge doing work on my own cars. After these local shops charge me hundreds for "inspections" and "drive assembly" it turns out it was frozen through a few winters and the upper cracked. After weeks of searching I found a similar outdrive but it needs to be resealed badly. I've rebuilt the carb and did tune up stuff but feel the seal job is above my skill. I understand shops are extremely busy but I am so anxious to get on the water. Besides my ranting the reason for my post is to get input whether you all feel I could take on this job or best to continue waiting till for a pro.

i think with basic mechanical skills and a factory repairt manual you could easily repair (do a reseal job) ken cook co has reprint rites for the omc manuals call the upo have your model and serial numbers ready and a credit card in your hand whe you call you will have the manual in a couple days
