My boat started missing when I put it in reverse so I stared at my carberator for about 5 minutes and made my first mistake, I adjusted the red lower shift cable and to make matters worse I didn't adjust the black adjuster I did the cable itself. But low and behold it went into reverse great but then I put it in forward and it would miss in forward above twelve hundred rpm then I looked at the carberator for a hour and a half and then got on the Internet and discoverd I messed up bad, real bad Guess cobra out drive 5.8 are really finicky about that lower red cable adjustment. Is it possible to fix this without taking the out out drive off?or do you suggest just biting the bullet and taking it to a shop and having the new improved orange cable put on? One last thing when I drained my oil I seen some metal flakes maybe about twenty, do you think I chewed up the dog cluch?

THERE ARE TWO FIXTURES USED TO ADJUST THE CABLE LENGTH AND STOKE WHEN INSTALLING A CABLE THAT MUST BE DONE AFTER THE NEW CABLE IS INSTALLED THESE ADJUSTMENTS SHOULD NEVER BE TOUCHED AGAIN THERE IS A SHIFT ROD HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT THAT SHOULD BE DONE ON THE DRIVE BEFORE INSTALLATION THEN THE DRIVE GETS INSTALLED AND ALL OTHER ADJUSTMENTS GETS DONE WITH THE SHIFT BRACKET AND CABLE THAT COMES BACK FROM CONTROL BOX IT CAN BE DONE BUT BEST LEFT TO SOME ONE WITH THE PROPER TOOLS I CAN CONFIDENTLY SAY 90% OF MAJOR REPAIRS NEEDED ON THE OMC COBRA DRIVES ORIGINATE FROM IMPROPER SHIFT SYSTEM ADJUSTMENTS OR THE TRANSOM SHIFT CABLE FAILURE IF WE DO ANY OF THESE IN THE NEAR FUTURE WILL POST SOME PICTURES FOR YOU UP TO DATE SHIFT SYSTEM ADJUSTMENTS INSTRUCTIONS ARE HARD TO FIND AND ONLY CONTAINED IN SERVICE BULLETINS BECAUSE THEY CHANGED THIS PROCEDURE QUITE A FEW TIMES BEFORE GETTING ALL THE BUGS OUT OF THE SYSTEM AND PROCEDURES
